Mellissa S. Whitfield

SENIOR LITIGATION PARALEGAL

Originally from Weimar, Texas.  Mellissa joined our firm in 2022.  Mellissa is a Board Certified Civil Trial Law Paralegal with more than a decade of experience with complex civil litigation in Texas state and federal courts.  Her career has been primarily devoted to civil litigation matters, with a particular focus on highstakes cases where meticulous drafting, thorough investigation, rigorous legal research, and organized preparation directly influence the outcome for clients.

Mellissa began her Paralegal career in 2013 after obtaining her Associate Degree of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies, along with academic recognition and coursework in legal research and ethics.   Through years of focused work in the courtroom and behind the scenes, she earned Board Certification in Civil Trial Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2019.

Known for exceptional legal research skills and a strong analytical approach, Mellissa is adept at locating and synthesizing controlling law and quickly identifying key facts and applying those facts to the law in persuasive pleadings and other litigation documents that help present our clients' positions clearly, accurately, and persuasively.   Her work helps present our clients' positions accurately and convincingly, and contributes to securing favorable results in negotiations and the courtroom.

She manages extensive court and trial calendars, tracks hearings and Docket Control Order deadlines, and coordinates numerous active cases simultaneously.  Mellissa assists our attorneys at every stage of the litigation process, from initial investigation and discovery through dispositive motion practice, mediation, and trial.

Mellissa is highly organized and highly capable of managing a highvolume caseload while maintaining strict confidentiality and meeting tight deadlines.  Additionally, she serves as a steady liaison among attorneys, court staff, experts, and clients, keeping clients informed, prepared, and as comfortable as possible with the litigation process through clear, timely communication.

Outside the office, she extends that same commitment to her community, having donated her spare time serving as President of Friends of DeWitt County, the Child Welfare Board of DeWitt County, and the Cuero Little Dribblers Association, and volunteering her photography skills to the Cuero Little Gobblers capturing the moments little athletes shine the brightest.

Her depth of experience in paralegal work allows our trial attorneys to stay focused on executing litigation strategy, courtroom advocacy, and the broader objectives of each case, rather than the mechanics of litigation support. In doing so, she helps position our team to pursue the results our clients need and the verdicts they deserve.
